You´ve so many...

...plain out right weird songs, taht you somehwo manage to make good.
This song is a great example of that.

Really well balanced mix, and freaky sounds that makes this glitchy.
You´re one of the most talented audio artists on this site I´d dare say, that is if you can understand glitch :)
Loved the beat that came in in the end. A short sample of a slightly pitched up human vpoice going "ah", "eh" or something would have been perfect to fill it up even more and make it even weirder!

LJCoffee responds:

He-hey!

Thanks for the review - It's always nice to get a little validation from time to time.

I've had a few people comment on the lead synth - apparently it's not quite refined enough or something... no biggie - It wasn't quite exactly what I was trying for but it was pretty close to what I had in mind. That particular synth is going to be pretty cool when the author finally gets it done. Check it out at http://www.karmafx.dk/ - it's a pretty cool little modular beast.

Well... as for weird shit, I guess that's about what I'm good for. Thanks for the compliments!

I'll talk to you in mere moments I'm sure!

I first heard this track...

...on the buss on my way home from school, right after you sent it too me.

Nowadays I keep volume pretty low on my headphones,´my ears have taken quite some beating from them, so i couldn´t quite "reach all the goodies".
One thing I heard at ones, and that was that even tho there were alot of backgroundnoice, i could still make out alot of sounds. This shit is clear as a freaking day. Your mixing skills are as good as ever. And I also noticed something I didn´t like, twas that "ding" cymbal/bell whatever it was, it strikes twice when it occurs here and there in the song. It definitley felt nessecary with something similiar, but i just didnt like it, the sound itself sounded wrong in my ears.

Anyway, there is a synth that just fuckign blow my mind, it´s the one that follows through the whole song. Smooth thing, not the bass-like drone, but the other one. The drone is fucking hardcore too tho. But perhaps thatone could have been a little more varied and alive and had it´s oown "solo section"? N ot nessecary, really, but I love it when buzzy drones goes "bzzzOOOAAAZZZRRRRZZZZZZzzzzz" with a filter and a reasonale amount of resonance smashes it in the very center and front of the mix!!!

THe bassdrum sounds cool, as does the whole beat, to be honest (except that beell thingy i mentioned:)
The compressed snare really splashes in nice like hell, giving me a sensation that it hit´s really hard, when it in fact is fairly low in the mix. Nice one.
The glitching, hopping, usage of filters and all those buzzy blipping effects that jumps around on each side... manm this may not be the "best" song I´ve heard from you, but holy hell it might very well be one of the most entertaining ones!! ´

I´ve listened through it a couple of times since i came home and off the buss :) and yeah, it´s definitley a grower. The more I hear it, the more it grows.

I assume you´ve used acid for some noices and sampled some stuff, is the rest reason?

I just freaking envy your amazing pruduction and mixing skills man, good part is that you kep improivng all the freakin time!!!

This track is an honest straight freakin ten in the categories that NG reviewing allow!

Good luck at yer new home man, it´s good to have you back online!!! :)

Kingbastard responds:

Always nice to receive a review from the big R:) Cheers for your constant support

Wow...

...man, NOW were talking!

This is really really sweet stuff, dark and moody, just the way I like it.

Really like the sliding thing that moves around in my left speaker, and the elec. guit that comes in on t he left one really beefs things up ALOT! seriously man, this is fucking awsome!

The worst thing about hte song tho is the beat. The beat should definitley be there, but its just that the samples really sucks, and its way too repetitive. Thats actually something i thionk you should work wiht a little more overall, you really make good buildups and make em sound real sweet, but then it kinda stays there. It does feel a little muddy when everythinkg is playing at the same time, some EQ should make things better. However, add a break here and there, remove a sound there, mute this and that for a sec or two, make thins move in and out of the mix to keep it interesting and non-cloggy!

Good shit man, ill be back at ur page anytime soon :)

A really...

...smooth little piece right here, man!

Definitley moody and chilled out, just the way I like it.

Pieces like this is difficult to critisise, since it´s what you want that really matters, if u know what I mean... I could go in and say that "you should have introduced some kindof beat bl bal bal" but that would have made a totally different song.
I did expect a beat to arrive tho, but hell this is sweet as it is.

A technical issue I can bring up though :)

Some of the sounds seem to mask each other quite some. I think you definitley should check your EQ a little, and try to "puzzle" the sounds together better. Very important on a song like this that you use all of the 3-d specturm of the sound between the speakers (up-down = frequencie, left right and forth - back volume). You dod have some panning and good stuff going on, but try and see if ya can "release" the instruments even more!

There is always room for improvement, whoever made the song, but i really gotta try hard to foind something here.

IMO a beat would have been good, even if it would have been a subtle klick or whatever.

Great job though man, im gonna try to greview my friends music a lil more... but im gonna be stuck with that dial up now and then >:(

Peace!

Well...

...you should definitley work more in thisone I think. Basicly it´s not more then a bassline over a beat, and it doesnt even loop very well in the end...

For a loop, I don´t see the point of it being as long as it is, four bars or so would be more then enough, unless something is happening in the loop.

I dont know what programs you´re using, but here are a few tips in general;

To make a short song/loop like this not so boring, cut n paste a little/change the drums here and there. You can do the same with the bassline without having to be ashamed of it, just a few off-hits here and there to change the rythm slightly and to keep the interest up.

The loop got very bassy very fast. If you only intend on using drums and a bass (not talking bout the genre DnB tho :) you should definitley work more on the bass-sound. For bass it works well if you cut the very lowest frequencies, perhaps 30-40hz with a highpass filter. Try to EQ the bass with the bassdrum, so they don´t crash into eachother and mask eachother up.

Another thing to make the bassline more interesting, just add a liiiittle bit of phasing effect, that very well could change slowly over time.

Basicly, think small and subtle to get big and good results!

Good luck!

no offence...

...but this wasn´t very good at all.
This is very basic samples and/or as it sounds pre-set synth sounds that any fool can accomplish. Good thing you didn´t override any volumes though, that´s newbies mistake nr. 1.

If you wanna make music for "real" i suggest you go check out the audio forum, hang out there and chat with the regulars and im sure you´ll get the help you´ll need to make good music!

I do see the purpose of this song, being an end theme for your (superb) flash, of course, but perhaps you should seek out some skilled artist to do the music for you?
A few songs of your earlier songs are really decent, and have potential, but you do have alot to learn when it comes to making music (and im not talking about the production, but mainly the effort and time that can be put in mixing and mastering the song, wich can be quite a big part when talking about computer based music).

I write this "review" mainly to promote the underrated artists of the AP/AF, and to give you a shoutout that there are places you could go to learn making music, if you´d be interested in that! I would really like to see music that can match the quality of your flash!!!

Good luck!

awsome-...

this song really got to me, it felt like directly from a movie, like some guy being chased and getting small pauses in between. this was just fucking awsome! make more weird stuff like this!

orange-peel responds:

okeydokey

yeah!

...cool shit man, i like the kind of weird feeling i get of ska mixed with heavier hardcore-styles kindof.
Recording doesnt feel top notch, to e honest tho... lots of "unwanted" disting in my ears at least... :/

Still a well made song, there´s nothing else to that!!!

Good shit man, keep it up!

Good shit man, keep it up!

This was...

...really cool man! Sounds more like punkrock in my ears then metal though, but its a thin line i guess...

Too bad you didn´t submit this earlier, you could have entered the TANKMEN contest if you would have been in time... Check the contest here;

http://www.newgrounds.com/bbs/topic.php?id=543823

You will also find a link somewhere on those pages to samples from the first TANKMEN flash that Utah put out for the contest.

Anyway, nice job man, I really like the "i dont give a shit" feeling this song gave. The overall sound is good, no sounds interefear with each other an the instruments are well balanced too.

Cool shit.

Nice...

...to have you back again (?) mate! You´ve been missed!

Awsome piece, the basedrum was really thumping, and the whole piece just roared. Very good quality, great mixing, awsome mastering... Well, what can i say... it´s a five!!! :)

Gött jobbat mannen, du har blivit grym!!!! :)

No multi-n00bing, pl0x.
