Even though you...

...reviewed your own songs/have two hardcore fans this stuff is pretty cool. I like the whole talking real fast thing going on. The disted guitar synths sounds fairly crappy though, especially the one panned to the left. The whole track would probably feel alot better if you eq´ed it some. I understand you probably want a muddy sound for this song, but the piano just goes away when the song starts, some mastering would take care of that. Keep it up mate.

Thank you

I´m sitting here and...

...downloading as you upload. This stuff is really good man. What equipment did you use making this?
Anyway, theres really nothing to complaint about. Im in the library writing this, so its difficult to review the quality, but form what i can judge its really good. The buildup on the song is really good, the instruments work fine with each other. It does get a little too mouch in places, maybe some more balanicing out on the instruments might set the mix free a little.
I liked the softer part in the song, in my opinion you should have had a big fat beat drop there, to make it really, well... big :) Judging on the filtering that follows, there is hardware incvolved in this stuff, right?
Anyway, nice song, mate. Ive just downloaded all ur songs, gonna listen to them on my way home afterwards :)

dj-padman1 responds:

I appreciate your advice, it makes a lot of sense. Drum and bass and breaks are all about the 'drop' really. It's something I need to really work on, for sure!
It is a fairly dense production, I was going for kind of a Crystal Method thing. They often have 3 or 4 strong sounds competing for space but I reckon with their mixing skills they can pull it off.
Hmm..the song is composed entirely in software, Ableton Live actually, so I made liberal use of the really great filters and effects within in to enhance (or jeopardize) the song. The glitches, stutters, etc were most likely performed by Beat Repeat, again, that one is built into the software. I can usually manually edit volume on the master channel to get some gate type effects.

Keep watching Rucklo, one day I'll master the drop. Or at least get a C+ on the subject!

By the way, thanks for taking the time to listen to the music, I'm really happy that it gave you some satisfaction and thanks again for the observations :)

This is really...

...good, you are a good guitarplayer indeed. However, there are some sour notes here and there, but its not that important, really. The recording however, isnt the bet, quality brings the song down a bit unfortunatley. But i heard on the radio that youre a poor bastard, so i´ll leave it to that :D
NAh ,anyway, you should hook up with some beats and a bass, and make more out of it I think. Or perhaps just a 100% instrumental guitar-solo with some freaky synth-sound effects... but than youll have to come up with a liiiittle fresher sound qual on the guit. or simply distort and detroy the "clean" sytnh samples :D
Anyway, nice playing man. Ship ohoy!

mhb responds:

thank you. and yeah i hate the fact that my quality sucks, but alas i am a poor bastard. maybe i'll just make a guitar track so distorted that it sounds normal.

This is a...

...soft song, it has a nice feeling to it. Allmost like... MENU MUSIC OMG!!! :D
But to be honest, the beat didnt feel like it belonged there 100%, the hi-hat should perhaps go to 1/4 instead of 1/8, or simply change it to an egg shaker. And for the bassdrum and the snare, theyre both a tad too reverby and stand out too much in the mix, and it makes the othervise so good composition turn a little... gay.
Nah, thinking of it, get that beat out of there goddamnit!!!
But like i said, the compostion is really good, this is a PERFECT menu song. Or preloader, or something similiar. Good job.
(but god i hate those drums, man...)

Khuskan responds:

The drums were made for the sole purpose of offending you.

Nice intro...

...that alone wanted me to jump up and shake it, but im in the library on a public comp, so ill better keep it down...
I liked the phased synth that came in after the vox sample, it felt very alive. But it also made the other instruments (stringsynth in perticular) sound fairly flat. The piano felt a little too too high in the mix, didnt quite make a good lead there... and in my taste, song is actually a little too slow.

The chinese blipp took it up a whole lot though, the reverbed "aaaaaah" with the cool buzzing synth and the octave shifting bass felt reaaally nice. At that spot, the piano felt just right in volume, probably cause it was the lead.

Overallmix was OK, but it did feel like it suffered a little from quality being reduced (to fit NG?). Especially the hi-hats, and whatever that has a higher hertz...Bring them instruments down to perhaps 10khz or even lower if you intend on just putting it on NG. But its difficult to tell since im not on my computer (even thpough i have my own headphones :)

Anyway, this is a good song, i like it, and it gives me a good dancing feeling. Nice job mate!

DavidOrr responds:

Thanks for the in-depth review!

Yea, the piece did suffer a big quality-hit being reduced to 96 kbs. I would have gone it and screwed around a little more... but in all honesty I didn't care that much :P.

When I first started making it, it was a bit faster, but then I slowed it down. Maybe I'll revisit the idea of speeding it up again a bit.

Thanks again!

I think violin dogs...

...is a fun name for a song like this.
The strings in the beginning really freaked me out, or when the beat came it i got freaked out. This stuff IS freaky.
Overall clearance is OK, and the song is quite cool too. But it does have a feeling of uncompleteness. You need more effects and transitions in the song when things happen. Perhaps a drum roll, a pitchbend, an effect that goes "chouuuu" or whatever. That would ease up the song alot, and make it more, uh, user friendly.
Oh well, nice job anyway, Oijoink.

Ps im still in love with your name :)

/Rucklo

Oijoink responds:

Hehehehehe, thanks! But don't ya f*ck with tha Oijoink-stylo!! ;)

:P

Thanks bro!

I love your...

...way of lightening up the music with exellent use of panning.
This mix is very easy on the ears, and the composition and instruments chosen are very well put together, that is until the pizzicato comes in. It was standing out a little too much in the mix, perhaps a little too bassy, or too much reverb on thatone. Oh well, its just a minor glithc.
The usage of reverb and cleaning up the other instruments is a job well done.
I really liked the mystique this song gave the feeling of, and some blupped xylophones or whatever instruments are used put this song into a constant wandering mysterium. Nice one, LJ! This is a five!

LJCoffee responds:

Actually, all of the sounds were calmed way way down before I posted it - originaly all of the timbres were pretty bizarre but the whole thing felt a little... well... bizarre :)

If I'd have left them the way that they originally were and went with the glitch madness breakdown instead of the more traditional sounds then this would have ended up as a sort of IDM track instead.

Maybe I'll recycle it - or rathar, revert it back to an earlier state and resubmit a modified version to another genre.

Thanks.

Hummm...

This sounds halfway like porn music, and halfway like elevator music. I guess a soapophera would be perfect for the song...
Production sounds fairly descent, there are some instruments panned that makes the mix a little easier. Chioses of istruments fits good together, allthough i do think the beat makes the whole thing pretty... gay?
Oh well, it aint my kind of music, but at least there are some effort put here, and thats why I give you descent scores. Cherios.

GeijinTakashi responds:

Sorry my song brought homosexual tendecies to you. Oh well, I am glad that you understood the effort it took to make this.

This stuff...

...takes me back to when i first started listen to music "for real", more than 16 years ago. Metal was the only thing i could listen to back then, and this piece could very well been one of the first once i´d liked back then.
I liked the riffs, the first part of the song was really good. Gotta love it when the double-bassdrum comes in. Then i goes to the usuall mangleing, something i allwys concidered "nessessary" in metal songs, just to lift the "good" parts up.

Great stuff, anyway.- It´s fivened!

grind-or-die responds:

Thanks for spending time writing that half essay of a review!

And also, thanks for the 5!

This shit was really...

...awsome, dude!
Im not gonna get techincal, im too lazy at the moment. This song was really awsome though! Great work!
